Obituary of Albert Gencur

Albert Gencur

At the age of 90, the good Lord called a wonderful soul home to heaven. Albert most recently had been a resident at Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Joliet, IL.  He was born in Lorain, OH and was a Joliet area resident since 1954.  Albert was a decorated World War II US Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific. He retired after many years of service as an Industrial Salesman for steel mill products whose territory spanned the upper Midwest from Chicago to Youngstown, Ohio.

Albert married the love of his life, Charlotte (nee Springkowski), in 1949 and enjoyed their life together living, traveling and raising a family. Albert and Charlotte especially enjoyed their trips to Italy and Aruba. Their life was complete up until the Lord called Charlotte home in 2003. Following her passing, Albert found solace and friendship at the Joliet Park District Recreation Center. It was nice to watch all of the young people flock to Albert at the gym when he was there due to his kindness, interaction, and advice. There are no words that can explain the appreciation for the friendships and relationships formed to help ease his sense of loss. Albert was strong in his Roman Catholic Church Faith serving as usher twice a week at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church up until mid October 2016.

Preceded in death by his wife Charlotte (2003); two sons Marc and Eric Gencur; his parent’s Paul and Sophia (nee Smith) Gencur; one sister Agnes (David) Snell.

Survived by one brother Joseph Gencur of Lorain, OH, two nephews and five nieces and many friends also survive.
