Obituary of Donald Nicholson
Donald E. Nicholson
Age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Rush-Copley Medical Center. Born March 18, 1928, he was the son of the late Everett and Pauline (nee Partilla) Nicholson. Don proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He retired from US Steel in 1987 then continued his professional working career at Dow Realty (Re/Max), Shorewood Inn as a handyman and was the owner of Nicholson Locksmith and Saw Sharpening. Don enjoyed fishing, duck and geese hunting, camping and loved his many canine companions over the years, labs and golden retrieves.
Surviving are one daughter, Joan (Brian) Smolinski of North Aurora; one son, Edward Nicholson of Plainfield; three grandchildren, Tricia (James) Feffer of California, Dustin (Lindsey) Nicholson of Wheaton and Derek Nicholson of Nevada; one great-granddaughter, Emily Feffer; one sister-in-law, Marie (Earl) Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois (nee White) Nicholson (2011); one daughter, Mary Nicholson (2002); and his parents.
A Memorial Gathering for Donald E. Nicholson will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet with a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. conducted under the auspices of the Plainfield Moose Family Center #2491. As it was Donald’s request, cremation rites have been accorded.
