William J. Handlon

William J. “Bill” Handlon, age 71, of Shorewood, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, with his family by his side.

Born May 9, 1946 in Joliet, he was the son of William Bernard and Kathleen (nee Connery) Handlon.  He worked his entire career as a steel worker and industrial electrician at various steel mills, retiring from the former Ivez Corporation of Joliet.  Bill was also a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Bill was an adoring husband and father.  Family meant everything to him.  His pets were also an important part of his life, and his pride and joy was his freshwater fish aquarium.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 40 years, Lenore A. (nee Tolf) Handlon of Shorewood; two daughters, Amy R. J. Handlon and Hayley Kate Handlon, both of Shorewood; and two sons, Michael William Handlon and Aaron Chase Handlon, both of Channahon.

He was preceded in death by his dear son, Brendan Kyle Handlon (2005); and his parents.

Funeral services for William Handlon will be held Friday, December 29, 2017 at 12:15 p.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Road, Joliet, to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18 N. Woodlawn Avenue, Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m.  Cremation rites have been accorded and interment will be private.

Visitation will be held Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of time of services at the funeral home.
