Obituary of Christina C. Carmona
Christina C. Carmona, age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the Serenity Hospice Home in Oregon, IL. She was born in Dallas, TX, on May 19, 1933, to the late Miguel and Luz Garcia. As a young woman, she lived in Mexico, where she worked at a military hospital in the newborn unit. Christina diligently cared for both mothers and their precious newborn babies. Christina was also a talented and beautiful dancer. She danced a mix of ballet and traditional folk dances and performed in many dance shows in Mexico. Her dream was to continue working and studying to be a nurse. Unfortunately, her youngest sister, Maggie, became terminally sick with cancer while living in Chicago with their mother. Christina left her life in Mexico to support her mother & sister and made Chicago her home where she met her handsome and kind husband, Salvador.
Christina worked tirelessly for her large family in the home and outside the home. She made mouthwatering, authentic Mexican meals such as enchiladas, tacos, menudo, Spanish rice, and burritos. She crocheted beautiful baby blankets for her grandchildren and friends. Christina was an animal lover and allowed her family to have many dogs and cats throughout the years which brought a lot of joy and comfort to the family. She also loved movies and she passed that love to her children and they have many fun memories of going to the theaters and drive in theaters. She had a great sense of humor and was always ready to hear a funny story and or joke and she had an infectious laugh and smile which will be sorely missed.
Christina worked as a CNA for American Healthcare in Oak Lawn for many years, and also served as a home healthcare provider, helping people in the latter years of their lives. She was also known for her beautiful singing voice. Her number one joy in life was time spent with family, particularly her grandchildren. She was a great storyteller and loved sharing stories from her life as a nurse and as a young woman with her family.
Christina had a great love for her Catholic faith and a deep devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe such that a few trips were made to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.
Christina is survived by her children, Bernadette (Joseph) Gleiter, Miguel Carmona, Monica (Gregg) Vaughn, Gabriel (Colleen Hayes) Carmona, Dominic Carmona, and Juliana (David) Reitenbach; her grandchildren, Andrea (Benjamin) Evinger, Joe Gleiter, Tom Gleiter, Rose Marie (Nate Gutierrez) Gleiter, John Gleiter, Alexandria Vaughn, Larissa (Luke Bossert)Vaughn, Landon Vaughn, Ellyn (Samuel) Wilks, Hailey Vaughn, Leighanna Vaughn, Leo Carmona, Fenn Carmona, and Audrey Reitenbach; her great-grandchildren Jesse, Rachel, and Joshua Evinger, and brother Juan (Celia) Garcia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvador Carmona; son Alexander Carmona; Mary Christina, Clare Grace & Luke Francis Gleiter (babies who were miscarried); Hipolita (Pola) Teresa Garcia Rivera, Jesus Garcia, Margarita Garcia, and Maggie Garcia.
Funeral services for Christina Carmona will be on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, starting at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd, Joliet, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45.a.m., then processing to Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
