Shirley Rolando

Obituary of Shirley Laverne Rolando

Shirley Laverne Rolando (nee Yoder), age 97, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2023, after a long illness.

Born September 25, 1926, in Streator, she was the daughter of Frank and Dorothy (Cook) Yoder.  She married her long-time love, Elmer A. Rolando, in Morris, IL on August 12, 1944.  She always said she picked him because he was the only farmer in the county who had two cows.  She and Elmer resided in Diamond, IL for 55 years where they were both active in the community.  Together they enjoyed many years of dances at the Moose, outings with the Gleaners, and playing cards with family and friends.

Shirley enjoyed doing puzzles, card games, outings everywhere, and church activities.  Prior to her stay at Park Pointe, she volunteered at the Food Pantry and delivered Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her children, Roger (Jene), Melody (Robert Russ), Jeffrey, and Ross (Joe Perry); grandchildren, Sean, Erika (Michael Schmuldt), and Jason; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Harriet Luce; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, in 2008; one brother, Lester Yoder; and two sisters, Arlene Decker and Dolores Hammond.

Per her wishes, there will be no services.  Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, Morris, is in charge of her arrangements.  For more information, please call (815) 942-5040, or visit her Memorial Tribute at www.fredcdames.com
