Obituary of Richard A. Mau

Richard A. "Dick" Mau

Age 92, passed peacefully from this life, Monday, November 13, 2023, at the home of his daughter, surrounded by family.

He was born September 9, 1931, to the late Evelyn (Cronkrite) and Erhart Mau in Joliet, IL, where he was raised and educated, and a graduate of Joliet Township High School.  Soon after high school, Dick served his Country proudly during the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged from the United States Army as a Corporal at the conclusion of the War, yet continued to serve as a reservist.

He married the love of his life, Donna L. Johnson in 1957.

In addition to Donna, his beloved wife of 66 years, he is also survived by his daughters, Cindy (Fiore) Brandolino, Pamela (Steven) Troutt and Penny Senders; grandchildren, Dustin (Lindsey) Nicholson, Cole Senders and Jeff Brandolino (fiance Lara Almeida); great-grandchildren, Dylan and Myles; his sister, Lois Stiteley; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William Edward Mau and Donald Mau.

Dick, in his earlier years, worked as a machinist at the EJ & E Railroad.  He retired from the Contracts Department at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory after many years of service.

After retiring, he and Donna moved to Lavonia, Georgia where they enjoyed the community and mild winters.  They relocated to Elizabethtown in Southern Illinois for several years until returning home recently, to be near family.

A lifetime member of VFW Cantigny Post #367 and AF & AM Joliet Masonic Lodge #175, Dick will be remembered as a proud veteran who loved the Lord, his Family and his Country.

The Mau family will be forever grateful to Vitas Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion afforded Dick in his last days.

A Memorial Visitation for Richard A. “Dick” Mau will be held Friday, November 17, 2023, from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11:30 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet.  Interment and Military Honors will take place at a later date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
