Obituary of Aniela Para

Aniela Para, passed away at the age of 96, on March 7, 2024, at her home in Joliet, surrounded by the love of her family.  Aniela, the daughter of the late Jan and Anna (nee Majerczyk) Gubala, was born on January 3, 1928 in Southern Poland in the small mountain village Bialy Dunajec.

 

After the war, Aniela was involved in various church activities and with having a beautiful voice she was vocalist in the Sunday Masses. She got married to Andrzej Para had four children and last child was born 2 weeks after husband's accidental death in August 1965.  Aniela never remarried.  She dedicated her life to raising her kids, working on a small farm, and evening making and fixing dresses for local people. She was well known and respected by family and local villagers. In 1981 Aniela was sponsored by her oldest son, Stanislaw and his wife, Maria and immigrated to the USA.

 

After 5 years she took the oath and became US citizen, soon after, her other kids joined her and settled in the Chicago area.

 

Aniela was member of Polish Highlanders Alliance Lodge #40, where she served one term as vice president, and dedicated lots of volunteer hours to fundraising for Lodge. From her initiative, the lodge sponsored a cemetery chapel in her native village in Poland.

 

Aniela enjoyed traveling and family holiday gathering, especially the company of her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

 

Aniela is survived by her four children, Halina, Andrzej, Jacek and Stanislaw and their spouses; Malgorzata, Anna and Maria; eight grandchildren, Stanley, David, Marcin, Michal, Maximilian, Julia, Conrad and Kristian; and six great-grandchildren, Aria, Steve, Ellie, Riley, Amelia and Emily.

 

She is preceded by her husband, Andrzej Para; her parents; and her siblings, Jozef, Zofia, Wladyslaw, Stanislaw Gubala.

Funeral Services for Aniela Para will be held at 9:00 a.m., on Monday, March 11, 2024, from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL, to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at Ss Cyril & Methodius Cemetery in Joliet.  Visitation will take place on Sunday at the funeral home from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
