Michael R. Postel, of Crest Hill, passed away peacefully, on Friday, March 29, 2024. Mike was born in Joliet on May 22, 1957, to the late Raymond and Clare (nee McCarthy) Postel. He retired from the US Navy as Chief after 21 years of dedicated service where he earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal twice, the Navy Commendation Medal twice, Navy Achievement Medal 4 times, Good Conduct Medal 4 times, Southwest Asia Service Medal with a Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service deployment Ribbon 4 times, and a Meritorious Unit Commendation. After retirement, Michael worked as a Manager of Machinery Manufacturing at Formax/Provisor Tech for 19 years.
Everyone knows Mike was the life of the party, always trying to have a good time. He enjoyed listening to good classic rock at maximum volume. Some of his favorites were the Beatles, Eric Clapton, Cher, Santana, Garth Brooks, and Elvis. He was an avid Sox, Bears and Blackhawks fan. The Cubs were just ok.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; his children, Trina (Jerome) Semoes, Nick Postel, Nanette Barnes, Deserae (Chris) Frey; grandchildren, Seth and Brennen Semoes, Hailey Barnes, Camille, Alyssa, and Nolan Frey; and his siblings, Jim (Terri Onderisin) Postel, Mary (Bob) Nemanich, Rita Postel, Nancy Murphy, Joan (Ron) Nurczyk, Dan (Barb) Postel, Ann (Mike) Scully, and Leo (Brigitte) Postel.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, John.
A Memorial Gathering for Michael R. Postel will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, at 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) in Joliet, IL, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Military Honors will be held at 4:00 p.m. under the auspices of the United States Navy. As it was his request, cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431.
