Obituary of Earl O. Strieby

Earl O. Strieby "Sonny" Age 88, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with his family at his side. Born January 4, 1928 in Berwyn, he was the son of Herbert P. and Mildred A. (Plachetka) Strieby. He served with the United States Army during World War II in Italy. For 38 years, he worked for the B & O Railroad, retiring as a switchman. He also worked part-time for Sparrer Sausage Company. Earl will be remembered as quite the practical joker, but despite his wonderful sense of humor, he would give you the shirt off his back and do anything for anyone in need. He was quietly generous in his support of many charities because he believed in the Bible verse from Matthew that says "so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." He also loved musicals, and watching TV, especially programs on history. Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years, Betty K. (Woods) Strieby; one daughter, Sheila (Jeff) Kincheloe of Joliet; one son, David (Angie) Strieby of Joliet; two grandsons, Joseph and Nicholas Strieby; one sister, Darlene (late John) Strama of Oak Lawn; three brothers, Frank "Buddy" (Shirley) Desparrios and Ed (late Dorothy) Desparrios of Chicago and Michael Desparrios; two sisters-in-law Betty Strieby and Dolly Desparrios; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents; and two brothers, Herbert Strieby and Robert Desparios. A Memorial Visitation for Earl Strieby will be held Saturday, May 28, 2016 from 12 Noon until 3:00 p.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet where a Memorial Service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
