Marilyn A. Yankey
(nee Nelson)
Age 78, late of Plainfield, and formerly of Joliet, passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, with her family at her side.
She was born January 5, 1938 in Ottawa, to the late Earling and Rita (nee Downey) Nelson. She was a graduate of Ottawa High School and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing.
Marilyn was a nurse at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center for 35 years, and one of the first hospice nurses when the hospital's Bethany Unit started. She was a longtime member of the Fellowship Bible Church.
She will be remembered for being a very loving and giving person to all of her patients. Marilyn loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ronald D. Yankey; four children, Debra (Ernest) Juhant of Joliet, Jeffrey (late Jane) Yankey of Joliet, Patricia (Steve) Becker of Des Moines, IA and Gregory (Elisabeth) Yankey of Owasso, OK; 11 grandchildren, Hannah (Bradley) Anderson, Sarah, John, Justin and Joshua Juhant, Nicholas Yankey, Emma and Carson Becker, Christopher, Noah and Catherine Yankey; her twin sister, Carolyn (late Robert) Harty; two brothers, Ronald (Sharon) Nelson and Roger (Brenda) Nelson; one brother in-law, Arthur Majcina; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded by her parents and one sister, Jane Majcina.
Memorials in her name to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
Funeral services for Marilyn Yankey will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation Monday, 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
