"Mike"
Age 92, passed away peacefully, August 12, 2016 in Shawano, WI.
Mike was born September 29, 1923 in Rockdale, the son of George K. and Ruby (nee Stravatziakis) Vidalakis. He was raised in Joliet where he spent his entire life until relocating to Shawano. WI to be near his son and family.
A Veteran of World War II, he proudly served with the United States Army from 1942 to 1946 attaining the rank of Corporal. Emmanual was a graduate of Roosevelt University, Chicago, where he received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He later attended Kent Law School, Chicago.
Mike had a distinguished career as an Insurance Correspondent for Commercial Credit, Inc.
He was an lifelong member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Past President of the Church Board and an active member of AHEPA where he served as Secretary, President and District Governor. He was a lifelong member and certified instructor of the NRA. He taught rifle marksmanship to teens and young adults for many years. As a member of the Illinois State Rifle Association, Mike loved competitive shooting and was a former state champion. He also enjoyed fishing, trap shooting, deer and turkey hunting with his family.
He is preceded by his beloved wife of 61 years, Fanoula V. (nee Voulgarakas) Vidalakis (September 23, 2011); his parents, George K. and Ruby (nee Stravatziakis) Vidalakis; one sister, Sylvia Huber of Jefferson City,MO, and an infant brother, Peter.
Surviving are his son, Dr. George (Ina) Vidalakis of Shawano, WI; his daughter, Diane (Brad) Kamberos of Homer Glen; his grandchildren, Michael Vidalakis of Port Saint Lucie, FL, Stephanie Vidalakis (Brandon Hurda) of Madison, WI, and Kalista Kamberos of Homer Glen, IL; and nephews, James Huber, Dr Steven Huber, and Thomas Huber, all of Jefferson City, MO, and Dr William Huber of Kansas City, MO. Several nieces, nephews and cousins in Greece.
The family would like to thank Paiser's Oakhaven Assisted Living Facility, Shawano Hospice and Dr. Beth Gillis for their loving care and support of our father/grandfather.
Funeral services for Mike Vidalakis will be held at 8:45 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2016 from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway, Joliet, for services at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park where military honors will be accorded. Memorials in his name to AHEPA Scholarship Foundation Inc.
