On Friday, November 24, 2017, at the age of 86, Elizabeth Berest passed away peacefully in Summerville, SC where she had made her home the past five years.  A longtime Joliet, IL resident, Bettie retired from Joliet Public Schools District 86 after serving many years as their bookkeeper insuring fiscal prudence throughout the district.  She was a life member of Hadassah, former President of Sisterhood and a former board member of the Joliet Jewish Congregation.  

Born in Chicago, IL to the late Harry and Hattie (nee Kessie) Brown, she was raised in Joliet, attending Joliet Grade Schools and graduating with the Class of 1949 from Joliet Township High School. She then continued her studies at the University of Illinois.

Beloved mother of Susan (Bill) Miller of Charleston, SC; dearest grandmother of Emily Cain of Summerville, SC and Erica Koehl of Wichita Falls, TX; proud great-grandmother of Atticus and Brayden Koehl, Jackson, Reece and Margot Cain; and loving sister of, Lois (the Richard) Parmuth of San Diego, Ca

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin S. Berest (2012); her parents; one brother, Edwin Brown and one sister, Roberta Sohn.

Funeral services for Elizabeth Berest will be held TODAY SUNDAY November 26, 2017, 11:30 a.m. at the Joliet Jewish Congregation, 251 N. Midland Ave. (at Campbell St.), Joliet, with Rabbi Charles Rubovits officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of services.  Interment will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Fred C.
