Evelyn P. Michas
(nee Pelias)
“Bea”

At the age of 81, Bea passed away peacefully on January 22, 2018, at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home in Joliet, with her family by her side, after a lengthy illness.

Born and raised in Joliet, IL, on July 26, 1936, to the late Stephen and Sylvia (nee Tassaras) Pelias. Bea was a graduate of Joliet Township High School and Joliet Junior College.

Bea is survived by her devoted husband, William “Bill” Michas, with whom she spent 53 wonderful years together, and she is the loving mother of Sylvia Michas of Chicago. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Panos (Kula) Mihalopoulos of Larissa, Greece; sister-in-law, Eleni Mihalopoulos of Athens, Greece; and several cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Georgia (Jean) Hatzis and Betty (Iskalis) Krier; her sister-in-law, Sotiria Mihalopoulos; her five brothers-in-law, Michael Hatzis, Constantine Iskalis, Wallace Krier, George Mihalopoulos and Antoni Mihalopoulos; and her uncle, Dr. Evangelos Tassaras.

Bea was a lifetime member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, a member of Daughters of Penelope and the Philoptochos Society and she enjoyed her time educating youth about the Greek Orthodox faith as a Sunday school teacher. Bea was active in the Parent Teachers Association (PTA), Women of the Rotary and served as a volunteer with Presence St. Joseph Medical Center.

Bea was blessed with a kind and loving nature, which was immediately apparent upon meeting her.  Her greatest loves were her family, friends and ……chocolate.  While Bea will be greatly missed, she will be free of suffering and brighten heaven as its newest angel.

The Michas family will forever be grateful to Bea’s caregivers, the staff at Our Lady of Angels, Dr. Joseph Hindo and Dr. James D. Wright for their excellent and loving care.
