Joseph "Buck" Kozol

Of Plainfield (formerly of Joliet) passed away Monday at the age of 86. Buck is survived by his wife Katherine, son Edward (Karen) Kozol, daughter Stephanie Kozol Morris, daughter Michelle (Darren) Littman, son Anthony Kozol and his best friend "Mika". He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Tony Barauskus (age 15), Mikayla Kozol (age 8), Brooklyn Kozol (age 6), Troy Morris (age 7), Victoria Morris (age 5), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews whom he truly cared for.
Preceded in death by his father Andrew Kozol Sr. and mother Eva (Krochmal) Kozol, Buck joins his siblings Edward, William, Andrew Jr., Sophie Blaskovich, Pauline Novak, Julia Levandowski, Ann Kozol, and Lillian Fordonski.
Born of Polish descent, Buck served in the US Army and was a WWII veteran. He was a Sgt. in the 904th Ordinance H.A.M. Company and served in the European Theater under General Patton. He served from 1943 until honorably discharged in 1946. After the army, Joseph attended Detroit University, then transferred to DePaul University where he majored in accounting, becoming a CPA after his graduation in 1950. Years later he met the love of his life, Kathy, and they began their family together. He became the owner of Shakey's Pizza Parlor and later of Bucky's Pizza, before taking over his family's business Kozol Bros Inc. in 1977, which was established by his brothers Edward and William in 1934. Buck was an active member and participant in many local organizations. He was a dedicated parishioner of Holy Cross Church for many decades, a member of The American Legion Post #0005, and of the Plainfield Moose Lodge #2491. He will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
Funeral services for Joseph "Buck" Kozol will be Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 901 Elizabeth St., Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum.
