Obituary of Cathrine Barnes

Cathrine Jane Barnes "Katie" (nee Skolaski) Age 90. Passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL. Cathrine was born in Madison, WI on January 6, 1919. Cathrine was preceded in death by her parents, John and Johanna Skolaski of Madison; three brothers, and two sisters. Also preceding Cathrine in death was her son, Charles Bump of Vancouver, BC; his children are James of Seattle, WA, Eric (Ann-Marie) of Port Coquitlam, BC, Julia and her son, Charles, of Seattle, WA, Cherlandra (Harim) Estrada and their daughter, Ciela of Alder Grove, BC, Nancy of Alder Grove, and Michael Wyrill of North Vancouver, BC. She is also survived by a daughter, Julie, nee Bump, (Barry) Peters of Oswego, IL; their children are Kristen, Janelle (Steve) Pitula, Joseph (fiancee Sara Sully), and Douglas, all of Oswego, Catherine "Cat" (Shane) Bishir of Aurora, and Michael of Chicago; also surviving are four sisters, Julia (Edwin) Wright of Madison, Eleanor Strand of Bourbonnais, Cecilia (Lee) Bethel, and Elizabeth Wright all of Monona, WI; and one brother, Robert (Margaret) Skolaski of Madison. Katie spent her early years in Madison and moved to Joliet in 1948. She was employed first by Piggly Wiggly, and then later, Eagle Food Centers for 25 years. Katie enjoyed many hobbies. She was an accomplished wood carver and doll maker. She also loved to play the harmonica. Her interests included old bottles, antiques, and collectibles of all kinds. Katie was an expert seamstress. Further, she loved to make rosaries and little, beaded angels, both of which she gave to her many friends and acquaintances. She will be lovingly missed by all. Funeral Services for Katie will be Monday, April 6, 2009 at the Church of St. Jude, 2212 McDonough Street, Joliet where a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Boys Town, 200 Flanagan Boulevard, P.O. Box 6000, Boys Town, NE 68010 or Sister Servants of Mary Convent, 16949 Drauden Rd., Plainfield, IL 60586.
