Lazenby Sr., William R.
"Bill"
Age 76, went home to be with His Lord on January 3, 2010 from their home in Shorewood, IL after a long illness with Parkinson's disease and Multiple Myeloma (cancer).
He is survived by his loving wife and caretaker of 54 years, Trudy; his beloved children, Gwen (Barry) Gill of Shorewood, IL, and Bill (Dana) Lazenby Jr. of Madison, AL. He is survived also by his three grandchildren, Sarah Stroh (Dale Schue, fiancé), Brittany Lazenby, and Stephen Lazenby; his brother Johnnie Lazenby, a caring son-in-law, Mike Stroh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. and Flossie Lazenby; three brothers, Everett, Ernest, and Opie Lazenby; and one sister, Georgie Coffey.
Bill was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, but was raised in Kingsport, Tennessee. He moved to Joliet in 1953 to work for Caterpillar. After taking two years off to serve the Army, he retired after spending nearly 38 years with the company, most of it in management, and he was also a long-time member of the CAT Retirees Club.
A member of Curtis Avenue/Friendship Baptist Churches for 17 years, Bill loved reading his Bible daily and was an active prayer warrior. In his free time, he enjoyed all types of carpentry, was an avid woodworker, and truly enjoyed giving of himself to help others! Bill and Trudy also loved to travel, and had visited 34 out of the 50 states. Having lived in Joliet for 51 years, they were residents of Shorewood for the past 3 ½ years.
Visitation is from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., Thursday January 7, 2010 at Friendship Baptist Church, Plainfield, IL with the Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
Graveside Service at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL, with Military Rites accorded, will follow promptly at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Odis Weaver will officiate.
