Obituary of Sister OSF

Sister M. Merwyn Baron, OSF Sister M. Merwyn Baron, OSF (1909 - 2009) died peacefully at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home on March 23, 2009. Born in Burnside, IL, she was the second daughter born to John and Mary (Harligh) Baron. She is survived by one brother, Matthew (Lori) Baron. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Michael (Helen) Baron and her sisters, Sister Jane Baron, OSF, Tillie Hanson and Julie DiBartolo. Sister Merwyn was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 81 years. Before entering religious life, Sister Merwyn was a resident of Guardian Angel Home. She attended St. John the Baptist Grade School and graduated from St. Francis Academy. In 1927 she followed her older sister, Mary (Sister Jane) and entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate. She received her Bachelor's Degree at the College of St. Francis (now the University of St. Francis) in Joliet. Sister Merwyn taught in elementary schools in Ohio and Illinois for 46 years. In 1976 she retired from teaching to move to St. Francis Academy sisters' residence where she served as receptionist. For the last 20 years she has been a resident at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home where her final years were devoted to prayer and community service. The wake will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Thursday, March 26, 2009, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Friday morning, March 27, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, 1433 Essington Road, Joliet, IL 60435. Arrangements by: FRED C.
