Vernon William Lohmar
"Vern"
Age 79. Monday, May 7, 2007 at Lakewood Nursing & Rehabilitation following a recent illness. Born in Joliet and a lifelong Joliet area resident. A WWII U.S. Army Veteran serving in the European Theater. Retired from Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center as a painter, after many years of service. Formerly employed at the Carlson Paint and Glass Store as the store manager. A life member of Cantigny Post #367 VFW and the Moran A.C. Member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #300. In recent years, he enjoyed Sunday afternoons skeet shooting with his nephews. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather, whose greatest love and focus was being with his family and sharing their lives.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara J. (nee Hartley) Lohmar (2004); parents, and one brother, Gordon Lohmar.
Survived by two daughters, Linda (Bob) Pluth, Jr. of Naperville and Lori (Jim) Witty of Joliet; four granddaughters, Jamilyn (fiancé Brandon Secman) Witty, Jennifer (fiancé Brett Collander) Pluth, Kristin Witty and Kara Pluth; two grandsons, Ryan Pluth and Michael Witty; one sister-in-law, Anna Mae Lohmar; one brother-in-law, James (Shirley) Hartley; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services for Vernon William Lohmar will be Friday, May 11, 2007 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park, where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday 4-8 p.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home.
