Obituary of Donald Long
Donald W. Long
Age 91, passed away peacefully Friday, January 23, 2009 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center.
Donald was born in St. Louis, MO and moved to Joliet with his family at an early age.
He was educated at St. Raymond's Grammar School and DeLasalle Catholic High School.
He worked for a few years after high school in St. Louis, MO and later moved back to Joliet and commuted to Chicago for over 40 years and retired from the Sargent and Lundy Engineering Company.
Don was an avid sports fan and a loyal St. Louis Cardinal and Notre Dame follower. He enjoyed traveling all over the world, and he loved to draw and paint and was a talented artist.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Agnes Long; sisters, Marge Long and Loretta Sullivan; brothers, Tom, John and Barrett; sisters-in-law, Pauline Long, Martha Long, Alice Long and Catherine Long; brothers-in-law, Judge Thomas Feehan and Jim Sullivan; nieces Jill Long and Betty Lou Sullivan; and nephews Jack Sullivan and Tom Long.
Don is survived by his brother, Norman Long whom he lived with for the past 25 years, plus his brother, Robert Long and wife Marilyn, and his sister, Beverly Feehan. Also surviving are nieces, Kerry Long, Connie Long (Richard) Myers, Erin Long (Matthew) Springman, Colleen Feehan (Ron) Richardson, Kathy Feehan (Craig) George, Bonnie Long Hooper, Sandy Long (Richard) Herberholt, Doryle Long (Peter) Maniscalco, and Karen (Richard) Long; nephews, Barrett (Jeanne) Long, Tom (Linda) Feehan, Brian Feehan, Kevin (Gina) Feehan, Mickey (Jane) Long, Kenneth Long, Dennis (Barbara) Long, Terry Long, Joseph Long and Dick Long; numerous great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; and a wonderful cousin, Nancy Merz.
Don's greatest pride and joy was being a member of his large, loving Irish family who enjoyed many reunions. He also enjoyed his friends and neighbors at the Woodlawn Condos.
Don's family is especially grateful to the wonderful staff at The Timbers of Shorewood Assisted Living Facility, where Don and his brother, Norm, lived the past year.
Finally, the entire Long family is grateful to the wonderful staff of Provena St. Joseph Medical Center and all the excellent doctors who took great care of Donald while he was there.
Funeral services for Donald W. Long will be Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Misericordia Home, 6300 North Ridge, Chicago, IL 60660, American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P. O.
