Obituary of Jack Loy
Loy, Jack L.
Age 69, of Joliet, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center with his family by his side, following a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born August 22, 1942 in Springfield, OH, he was a graduate of Joliet Central High School. He managed the former International House of Pancakes on Webster Street, before joining the Joliet Police Department where he served 25 years, retiring in 1995. He later worked for the River Valley Justice Center and was a City of Joliet Crossing Guard. Member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Joliet Matteson Lodge #175 A.F.& A.M.
In 1973, he was recognized for his outstanding service and bravery to the citizens of Joliet.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who will be truly missed by all his family and friends.
His determination to beat the odds, which he did many times since 1992, will always be an example to everyone wishing to survive cancer.
Survived by his beloved wife, Shaun Craig-Loy; his children, Michael L. Loy, Mary Beth Loy and Jennifer, nee Craig (Joe) Mayfield; five grandchildren, Brandon and Stephanie Loy, William Thompson, and Alyssa and Jake Mayfield; one sister, Linda Gifford; sister-in-law, Dawn (Tim) Glagola; brother-in-law, Mykal Anderson; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; long time friends, Terry (Pat) Svetlecich and Jim Anderson; and his loyal companions, Bailey and Holly.
Preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ruby (nee Rapé) Loy; one sister, Carol Dockery; and brother-in-law, Robert Anderson.
Funeral Services for Jack L. Loy will be Monday, April 2, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the American Cancer Society for lung cancer research or charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated. Visitation Sunday 2-6 p.m. at:
