Obituary of Mathew Mammosser

Mathew T. Mammosser "Mammo" Age 18. Mathew was diagnosed on January 3, 2012 with primary nervous system metastatic melanoma. His five month courageous battle with this extremely aggressive cancer ended peacefully Sunday May 27, 2012 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Although his family has never left his side since he was hospitalized April 17, 2012, many additional family members and friends were at his bedside where they remained for three days before God called him home. A student, an athlete, a poet, a dreamer, a doer, a seeker, a fighter, and most of all, a darn good man who inspired and taught his peers lessons not measured by entrance exams, will long be remembered as "Mammo." He faced adversity with vigor and fight. So just remember- everyone touched by Matt-never give up; achieve your dreams, and never say never. Born in Joliet at St. Joseph Medical Center on January 13, 1994, he was a Junior at Joliet Catholic Academy which to him was a second home and his second family. Matt was living his dream as a defensive lineman, number 91, for the Joliet Catholic Academy Football team that he was so proud to be a part of, carrying on the Hillmen tradition. His friends were his strength and support and always had his back, and he theirs. Due to Matt's hearing impairment, the football team developed a language all their own. A graduate of St. Mary Nativity Grade School. A member of the world renowned Rudy's Power Lifting Gym "where he loved the smell of the weights." His dream was to play college football and to be a Firefighter/Paramedic. Preceded by his paternal grandparents John A. and Marian "Kate" Mammosser. Survived by his loving and devoted parents Jim and Susan (Nee Hintz) Mammosser of Joliet; one brother Nick Mammosser; one sister Rachel Mammosser both of Joliet; his dearest niece Kylee; his maternal grandparents Ernie and Janet Hintz of Joliet; the love of his life Sarah Gottardo of Lockport; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends. The Mammosser family is so grateful for all the generosity and support they have received from everyone. They do not know how they can repay what has been given to them. There are so many that have touched their lives they do not want to leave anyone out. Whether you said a prayer and the family felt you were with them, sent them a note and they read it, bought a shirt and they saw you wearing it, or provided any gift, they know you did it. Funeral Services For Mathew "Mammo" Mammosser will be Friday June 1, 2012 at 10:30 from the Joliet Catholic Academy Student Center to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
