Irene A. Batis
(nee Orenic)
Age 83. At rest Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home. Born in Joliet to the late Michael and Anna (nee Sceniak) Orenic, she was a lifelong resident. Graduate of Providence Catholic High School Class of 1945. Formerly employed as a legal secretary including 25 years with McKeown Law Firm. Irene was very involved with various clubs and organizations during her children's grade school and high school years. A long time member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Choir, current secretary of the Cathedral Seniors Club. "Grandma's" greatest love was her grandchildren, and she was their number one fan when it came to her grandchildren's sporting events, and school activities.
Survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Edward J. Batis, Sr. of Joliet; seven children, Mary Katherine (Roger) Tibble of Wheaton, IL, Judith Ann (Joseph, Jr.) Stengele of Joliet, Ann Marie (Daniel) Kinsella of Wheaton, Edward Joseph, Jr. (Kathleen) Batis of San Antonio, TX, Carol Ann Brown (Kim) Warpinski of Yorkville, IL, Joseph Edward, Sr. (Sandra) Batis of Joliet, and James Edward (Susan) Batis of Joliet; 32 grandchildren, David, Peter, Stephanie, John, Jim, Jeff and Jake Tibble; Joanne (Bryan) Achbach, Mary Ellen (Sean) Brennan, Mike (fiancee Sarah), Maggie, John and Beth Kinsella; Sarah (Justin) Murray, Eric, Steve (Laura), Mark and Mary (fiance Andrew) Batis; Tim, Tom and Kate Brown; Emily, Andrew (fiancee Melissa), Alex, Adam and Gus Warpinski, Ellen (Joe) LeKostaj, Joseph and Rudy Batis; Allyson, Abby and Mitch Batis; six great-grandchildren, Katherine and Megan Achbach; Jack, Molly, Bridget and Colleen Brennan; one sister, Mary Evelyn (Andrew) Matejcak; sister-in-law of Myrna (late Col. Edward) Orenic, Debra Ann (late "Buck") Orenic, and Helen B. (late Robert C.) Walsh; numerous nieces, nephews and special cousin, Dr. Raymond G. (Colleen) Orenic also survive.
Preceded in death by her infant son, John Edward Batis (1955); her parents; four brothers, Honorable Michael A. (Kate, nee Jehle) Orenic, Emil F. (Mary Terese, nee Spelich) Orenic, Col. Edward Orenic and William B. "Buck" Orenic; son-in-law, Michael Fitzgerald Brown.

Funeral Services for Irene A. Batis will be Friday, April 23, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Ss. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday 3-8 p.m. at:
