Obituary of Peter Maryanovich

Maryanovich, Peter S. Age 90. Passed away Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Manteno Veterans Home. Born April 27, 1922 in Joliet, he was the son of the late John and Pauline (nee Bozich) Maryanovich. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving on the front lines in both Germany and France, where his duties included operating a Howitzer and cooking for his unit. Pete worked as a carpenter out of Carpenter's Union Local #174 over 60 years, of which 30 years he was self-employed building many custom homes in the Joliet and Crest Hill area. He finished off his career as a master trim carpenter. Member of St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church and Cantigny V.F.W. Post #367. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed raising horses from the early 1950's through the 1970's. After his retirement he enjoyed mowing grass and doing yard work. Pete will be remembered for his sense of humor and storytelling at various meeting places around town. Survived by his two loving children, Dorothy Pumphrey of Longmont, CO and David (Jean) Maryanovich of Crest Hill; six grandchildren, Dennis (Jen) Pumphrey, Debbie (Jim) Robertson, Douglas Pumphrey, Deanna (Steve) Coleman, David Pumphrey and Daniel Maryanovich; ten great-grandchildren, Jaryd, Jonathon, Jordan, Jasmine, Jessica, Jennifer, Julia and Jillian Robertson; Stephania and Shaelynn Pumphrey; one brother-in-law, Gus (late Kay) Tomac, two sisters-in-law, Patricia (late Thomas) Tomac and Katherine (late Albert) Hochevar; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Stephanie M. (nee Tomac) Maryanovich (June 8, 2006); his daughter, Joyce (Harold) Anglemire; his parents; two sisters, Mary (Joseph) Marchio and Ann (Jim) Maher; two brothers, John Marjanovich and Tony, in infancy. The Maryanovich Family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the medical staff at Manteno Veterans Home and Passages Hospice for their care and support. Funeral services for Peter S. Maryanovich will be Monday, August 20, 2012 at 11:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. Interment St. Mary Nativity Cemetery.
