Dorothy W. Matys
(nee Thomas)
Age 88, late of Plainfield the past eight years, and formerly of Mt. Prospect and Sarasota, FL, passed away Friday June 29, 2007. Born in Chicago in 1918 and died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Former Treasurer and co-owner of Tula Machine Company, Inc. of Chicago, she was actively involved in the accounting and financial operations of the business. She was a graduate of Schurze High School in 1936. She was active with the Mt. Prospect Lions Club, where her husband was past president. She was recently welcomed in Messiah Lutheran Church in Joliet. An avid gardener, her yard was always awash with colorful blooms. She showed as much care for her family, who all know her to be gererous, loving and supportive. Preceded in death by her husband, Edwin J. Matys (2006) of Plainfield; her parents and her brother, Walter Thomas. Survived by her two daughters, Darlene (William) Wilkinson of Plainfield and Madeline (Bernard) Ferdinand of Naperville; four grandchildren, Richard (Cynthia) Wilkinson, Robert Wilkinson and friend Melody Allen, Katheryn (Charles) Johnson and Karen (John) McCurrie; five great-grandchildren, Ashley and Morgan Wilkinson, Bobby Wilkinson, and Derrick and Chad Johnson; one sister, Caroline Reis.
Dorothy W. Matys will Lie in State on Monday July 2, 2007, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 19901 Houbolt Rd., Joliet from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 10:00 a.m. Pastor David Nygard and Pastor Daniel Metzger officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Arrangements by:
