Obituary of Archibald McCoy DR

Dr. Archibald D. McCoy Age 90. Monday, July 7, 2008 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home. Born in Chicago, he was a long time Joliet area resident. He graduated from Loyola University College of Medicine in 1944. Member and Eucharistic Minister at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. He began practicing medicine at Sacred Heart Hospital in Chicago. He continued his practice in Boston at the Lehey Clinic, then served in private practice in Wardensville, WV, returning to Cook County Hospital to finish his residency in 1950. Dr. McCoy opened his private practice in Joliet in 1953, serving the Joliet Community until his retirement in 1980. Former Chief of Staff at both St. Joseph Hospital and Silver Cross Hospital. He was former head of neurosurgery at Silver Cross Hospital for over 20 years. He was an avid sailor and sailed the Mackinac Island Race 12 times. Survived by his daughter, Maureen Flynn-McCoy of Washington, DC; five sons, Dennis (Judy) McCoy of Virginia Beach, VA, Michael McCoy of Joliet, Brian McCoy of Denver, CO, Barry (Lori) McCoy of Rochester, MN, Daniel McCoy of Miami, FL; seven grandchildren, Sara, Cary, Zane, Zoe, Kathleen, Andrew, Samantha and Ashley; one great-grandson, Spencer. Preceded in death by his wife, Agnes (nee Flynn) McCoy; parents, Archie and Virginia (nee Delgado) McCoy; one son, Thomas; and one grandson, Matthew. Funeral Services for Archibald D. McCoy will be Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. As it was Dr. McCoy's request, cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral Mass. Private interment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials in his name to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or the Diocese of Joliet would be appreciated. Visitation Friday 4-8 p.m. at: FRED C.
