James Patrick McNichols
Age 81. At rest Thursday, August 2, 2007 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Chicago on August 11, 1925 to the late James M. and Alvina (nee Anderson) McNichols, he was a resident of Joliet since 1931. Graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1943, Joliet Junior College Class of 1947 and J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Northwestern University of Business Management. Member of the Northwestern Alumni Club. A WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. Retired from the U.S. Government, Department of Energy at Argonne National Laboratory in 1986, he then pursued a career with Bell Real Estate for four years. Member of the Joliet Elks Lodge #296, Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus #382 (Past Grand Knight), past President of St. Patrick Catholic Church Holy Name Society. Through the years he was active in many community and civic organizations. Member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and the Paulites. Member of the Old Timers Baseball Association and the Will County Historical Society. Jim was very active with his High School Alumni and organizing the 1943 Class reunions. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and made it a point to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with his family and friends. Jim loved his grandchildren, and was an avid card player.
Survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ruth (nee Kuempel) McNichols of Joliet; beloved father of Bonnie (Joseph) Seme of Joliet; devoted grandfather of Alfred Chidsey III, and Andrea Beth (William) Alberico; adoring great-grandfather of William Andrew, Jacob James and Isabelle Ruth; two step-great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Ryne; one brother, Robert Wayne McNichols of Santa Monica, CA; brother-in-law of William and Lorrie Markley of Shorewood, Harold (Linda) Kuempel of Oregon, and George (late Alice) Mitok of Florida; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents; several in-laws and his dear friend, Fr. Cyril.

Funeral Services for James Patrick McNichols will be Monday, August 6, 2007 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park.
