Obituary of Ruth Ferrier-Menges

Ruth A. Ferrier-Menges nee Potts Age 85, of Gardner and previously of Clearwater, FL and Lemont, IL, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Morris Hospital. Beloved mother of Michael (Susan) Ferrier of Palmetto, FL, Mark (Susan) Ferrier of Dearborn, MI, Nancy (Frank) Mahoney of Gardner, IL and the late MaryLynn Ferrier (age 2 1/2 due to Cystic Fibrosis). Loving grandmother of Laura Zorn, Julie Finley, Stacey Ferrier and Daniel (Vikki) Ferrier; Jennifer (Dennis) Gladieux, Matthew (Tara) Ferrier, Morrow, Samantha and J.P. Ferrier; Donald (Jennica) Mahoney and Aimee Mahoney. Proud great-grandmother of Jonathon Zorn, Leah and Jada Finley; Brandon Ferrier, Tyler and Ryan Ferrier; Caius Gladieux, Ava and Ethan Ferrier; and Tenley Mahoney. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Verla Potts, brother in-law, Michael ( Yvonne) Cosgrove, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Preceded in death by her first husband Eugene Ferrier (1974), second husband David Menges (2005), her daughter MaryLynn (1962), parents, Harry and Myrtle (Rosenbaum) Potts and brother Alan Potts. Ruth was a wonderful hostess and cook who had an excellent sense of humor. Her true passion however, was being with her family. She absolutely adored her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Ruth was a friend to all that met her and loved by those privileged enough to know her. Ruth's zest for life and giving nature endured her to everyone. Ruth enjoyed watching "her" Chicago Bears and "her" adopted team the Tampa Bay Bucs. Ruth was a 43 year breast cancer survivor. Ruth's love of music, dance, and everything fun set her apart and made her life blessed. Ruth often said in her final days "I've had a "great life" I am ready for the next adventure. I will see you all on the other side. As it was Ruth's wish, cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will take place at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated also on Saturday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington, IL, where all friends and relatives are invited to gather from 1:00 p.m. until the Mass begins at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ruth's name can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 150 N. Michigan Ave., Ste. 400, Chicago, IL 60601.
