Obituary of Lois Meyer

Lois Irene Meyer (nee Harden) Age 76, of Joliet since 1999, and formerly of Kenosha, WI, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. Born October 15, 1934 in Leon, IA, she attended Decatur County schools and was a 1953 graduate of Leon High School and attended Abilene Christian University from 1955-57. She married John on March 28, 1956 in Abilene, TX. She was an active 36 year member of the Kenosha Church of Christ and the Joliet Church of Christ since 1999. Lois was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, who lived life as a faithful Christian filled with a positive attitude. In addition to being the most marvelous homemaker, Lois worked a various secretarial positions over the years as needed, and was an excellent typist, and received honors for her abilities in taking shorthand. She participated in all her children's activities including PTA and serving as a volunteer librarian, and serving as a Brownie Troop Leader. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, singing hymns, camping, and canning. She also supported the Florida College Chicagoland Booster Club. Surviving are her beloved husband of 54 years, John G. Meyer; her devoted children, Craig (Kimberly) Meyer of Washington, WV, Connie (Kevin) Wickersheim of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Christi (Tim) McPherson of Washington, WV, and Cindy (Mark) Childers of Washington, WV; ten grandchildren, Glenn, Neil, and Ethan Meyer, Heidi and Jonathan Wickersheim, Jordan, Hannah and Cody McPherson, and Faith and Sarah Childers; one sister, Ruth (Dan) Warren of Odebolt, IA; three brothers, Gerald Harden of Lamoni, IA, Bob (Elaine) Harden of Odebolt, IA, and Richard (Jan) Harden of Lineville, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded by her parents, Eldon Walker and Sarah Marie (Horney) Harden; two brothers, Ivan and Don Harden; and one sister-in-law, Frances Harden. The family wishes to thank Dr. Walsh, the ICU nurses and Respiratory Therapy staff at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, and the entire staff of Joliet Area Community Hospice. Funeral Services for Lois Meyer will be Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with preacher Karl Diestelkamp officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park, Kenosha, WI. Memorials to Chicagoland Florida College Booster Club Scholarship Fund would be appreciated.
