Obituary of William Mock

William R. Mock "Bill" Labor Leader Dies Age 86. Passed away Monday, October 11, 2010 at Provena Villa Franciscan. He was a former Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Union Local #179, Joliet, having been a member for 41 years before retiring. He attended five International Teamster Conventions held during that time. He was founder and the first President of the Teamsters Local #179 Retiree Club. Past member of the Board of Directors of the United Way, and also past member of the United Way Program and Allocations Committee. He worked with students of St. John School for 25 years as Athletic Director and basketball coach. He ushered at St. John's Church for over 40 years; a former member of the Parish Council, charter member and past President of St. John's School Board, founder of the Mens Club, and past recipient of St. John's Outstanding Man of the Year Award. He was a lifetime resident of Joliet, a graduate of Joliet Catholic High School, and a veteran of WWII. In his youth, he was an avid baseball player and manager, most notably with the Weber Dairy team. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Virginia J. (nee Lee) Mock (July 22, 2001); parents, Phillip C. and Sophia (nee Trost); four sisters, Irene Tezak, Phyllis Svetlecich, Loretta Russ, and Genevieve Simmons. Survived by three children, Cindy (Chris) Fitzgerald of Shorewood, Philip (Ronda) Mock of Joliet, and Bill (Karen Theis) Mock of Custer Park; two grandchildren, Heather (Kevin) Smith of Pennsylvania and Joe (Melissa) Warren of Joliet; one great-grandson, Nathaniel Smith. Funeral Services for William R. Mock will be Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. John Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park.
