Roger R. Morin
Age 77. Died Wednesday, December 19, 2007, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Joliet April 1, 1930, and made his residence in Crest Hill for many years. He attended Culbertson School and Washington Junior High, graduating from Joliet Central High School. Served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Kaiserslautern Germany. Retired as Engineer from Illinois Bell in 1985, after 30 years of perfect attendance. A long time member of the Illinois Bell Telephone Pioneers.
Roger enjoyed fishing trips with his family to Minnesota for many years, and was a long time Chicago sports fan of the Cubs, Bears, Bulls and auto racing. He spent much of his retirement tending to his huge vegetable garden and because of his generous nature, enjoyed sharing and delivering his wonderful fresh produce to all his friends, neighbors and relatives. He enjoyed telling a good joke and making people laugh, and kept his sense of humor to the end.
Roger leaves to cherish fond memories, his devoted wife of 53 years, Violet (Hennessy); son, Roger C. Morin of Chicago; daughter, Susan (Skip) Drafke of Marseilles; son, Joel Scott Morin of Joliet; he adored his grandchildren, Nicholas and Lauren Drafke of Marseilles, and enjoyed spending time with them. Also surviving are his little sister, Carol (Melvin) Boban; sister-in-law, Margaret Morin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents, Oswald and Myrtle (Johnson) Morin; dear brother, Donald Morin; beloved sisters, Dorothy Berger-Horrom, and Virginia Morin who passed in childhood; in-laws, Charles and Esther (Brandolino) Hennessy; and brothers-in-law, John Hennessy and Robert Berger, Sr.
Funeral Services for Roger R. Morin will Friday, December 28, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment St. Patrick Cemetery, with military honors under the direction of the U.S. Army. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice, who gave him tender care during his final days, would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday 3-7 p.m. at:
