Obituary of Major Neiman RET

Major Joyce A. Neiman, Ret. (nee Messamore) Age 73. Passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. Born in Barlow, KY, she was a long time Joliet area resident. She was a 1962 graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. A veteran of the U.S. Army, she served over 24 years as a registered nurse, attaining the rank of Major. She was the recipient of numerous commendations including the Bronze Star, for her service which included a tour of duty in Vietnam. Following her retirement from the military, she worked at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center for 13 years. Surviving are nieces and nephews, Kimberly Ann (Dwayne) Mills and their children, Colin and Triniti Mills; Michael (Paula) Messamore and their children, Tara and Krystal Messamore; Mary Lynn (William) Holnagel; and Douglas (Sylvia) Messamore and their children, Benjamin, Kassy and Douglas, Jr.; one aunt, Avis Blankenship; and numerous cousins. Preceded in death by her parents, Roy James Sr. and Mary Alice (nee Blankenship) Messamore; and one brother, Roy James Messamore, Jr. Funeral Services for Joyce A. Neiman will be Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Barlow Cemetery in Barlow, KY. Visitation today, Friday, 3-7 p.m. at: FRED C.
