Lon Edward Oehlwein
Age 68. Went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Walnut Grove Nursing Home with his loving family and friends by his side. Born October 6, 1943 in Spokane, WA to the late Oscar and Trudy Oehlwein, Lon grew up in Evanston, and lived for a time in California, and the Peoria area before settling in Morris 18 years ago. A United States Navy veteran. Lon worked for many different companies over the years as a Computer Systems Analyst. Lon had a huge love of life. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, trains, animals and Hamfest shows, but his favorite pastime was music. He played for years at the different Churches he attended, and he and his good friend Jim Carter entertained at the local schools, nursing homes and veteran's homes as Laughs, Lies and Libations.
In 1966, Lon married Glenda Sides, and to this union Loni, Kurt and Sara were born. Then in 1983, he married Karin Simpson and Jenny and Andy were born. He also leaves a son-in-law, Kenny; two beautiful granddaughters, Riley and Amelia; his sister, Susan Oehlwein; and his dear pets, Gabi and Chase.
The family would like to give thanks to the nurses and doctors of Morris Hospital, St. Joseph Intensive Care, RML Specialty Hospital and Walnut Grove Nursing Home for all of their wonderful care.
As it was Lon's final wish, cremation rites will be accorded. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the Peace Lutheran Chapel. Reverend William Mitschke to officiate and military honors to be conducted by the United States Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for medical bills and his son's education directed to First Midwest Bank would be appreciated. Family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00 p.m. until time of services. Arrangements entrusted to:
