O'Keeffe, John R.
"Jack"
Age 56. At peace Saturday, April 16, 2011 surrounded by his loving family and friends following a brief, yet courageous battle with cancer. Born in Chicago to the late John and Mary O'Keeffe and resident of Joliet most of his life. He retired as Master Patrol Officer with the Joliet Police Department in January of 2008 following 30 years of service. Also served the Department and Joliet Central High School as a detective for seven years. He was most recently a campus monitor for Plainfield School District. Recipient of Police Officer of the Year in 1989. Member of the Irish American Society of Will County, the Moran A.C., Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #58, and Member and past president of the Holy Family School Board.
Surviving is his loving wife of 24 years, Meg (nee Traven) O'Keeffe; devoted father to Lauren (Dan Herrera) O'Keeffe, both of Joliet; dear brother of Donna (Tony) Wade, Marcy (Bob) Twardak, Kevin (Catherine) O'Keeffe, Colleen (Chris) Berbeka and Brian (Christy Ford) O'Keeffe; brother-in-law of Ron (Rose) Traven and Debbie (Jim) Rogan; his faithful canine companions Angel and Zoe; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and all his dear friends of the Joliet Police Department also survive.
Jack will always be remembered by his bright, shining smile, and he was affectionally known as "Smiling Jack". Jack thoroughly enjoyed taking his family on their annual trips to Cancun
Funeral services for Jack O'Keeffe will be Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to Holy Family Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to further the education of his daughter, Lauren would be appreciated. Visitation Tuesday, 2-8 p.m. at:
