Obituary of Patrick Paul

Patrick F. Paul "Boomer" Age 52. Passed away peacefully Thursday, June 28, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family and friends, after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Born and raised in Joliet until moving to Minooka 12 years ago. Patrick was a devoted husband to Karen (nee Kostelz) of almost 25 years; proud father of Kevin and Megan; dear brother of Maureen (nee Paul) (Harry) Dombrowski; his wonderful mother-in-law, Mary Ann Kostelz; dear brother-in-law of Frank (Denise) Kostelz, John (fiancee, Sai) Kostelz, Rich (Jennifer) Kostelz and Mary Sue (Jason) Bulger; fond uncle of seven nieces and nephews, Kelley, John and Rachel Kostelz; Katie and Joe Bulger; and Hannah and Josh Kostelz; loving godfather of Josh Kostelz; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Patrick will be missed by his wonderful friends, who visited him and sat next to him during his illness, especially this past week. Preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mary (nee Kernc) Paul; his father-in-law, John "Jack" Kostelz. A graduate of St. Patrick's Grade School, Joliet Catholic High School and Lewis University. Patrick enjoyed every day of his 29 years of teaching at St. Patrick's Grade School. His coaching career with football, volleyball and basketball began at the Joliet Park District and ended at St. Patrick's Grade School, accumulating 500+ basketball wins. His greatest joy was teaching and coaching both his son, Kevin and daughter, Megan. As a teacher and Athletic Director at St. Patrick's Grade School, Patrick tried to instill the "Irish" traditions he grew up with. He was a basketball referee, football referee and baseball umpire for many years. For 34 years, Patrick wrote sports for the Joliet Herald News. He was an avid sports fan of the Green Bay Packers, the LA Lakers and the New York Yankees. Funeral services for Patrick F. Paul will be Monday, July 2, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in care of his family for a fund to be established, would be appreciated. Visitation Sunday 2-8 p.m. at: FRED C.
