Obituary of Robert Peahl
Robert Halldin Peahl
Born August 1, 1928. At rest June 26, 2011.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Margaret Grunnet-Peahl, and their children and their families, Douglas Grunnet, Robert Peahl, Vickie Halvorsen, David Peahl, Michael Grunnet, Susan Peahl. Bob found profound joy in his grandchildren Erin Grunnet, Matthew Peahl, Jason Rice, Joe Grunnet, Kirstin Peahl, Keri Grunnet, Brendan Peahl; and his great-grandchildren Jenna Rice, Julia Rice, Jordan Rice, Taylor Peahl, Kristien Peahl, William Grunnet.
Born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, Bob was the eldest son of Anna and Oscar Peahl. He lettered in football and track, and was a Minnesota State pole vault champion. He liked to snow ski and loved water sports, and performed as a trick skier for the Aqua Jesters, a water show serving children's hospital charities in Minneapolis. He is survived by sisters Arlene and Joanne, and brother Charles. His sister Marelyn preceded him in death as did his dear friends and brothers in law Walt, Elmer and Jim and his first wife Jeanne. His life was enriched by his many nephews, nieces and their children.
Bob enjoyed many life long friends plus the many that he met and touched where ever he went. He proudly served our nation in the Marine Corps and the US Air Force. In the early '60s the family moved to Wheaton Illinois where Bob became active in his church choir and councils, Boy Scouts, sports, community outreach work, cycling, and was an avid golfer. He later moved to Shorewood Glen, where he founded the bike club, and was active in veterans and bible study groups.
Bob was a happy person, who brought joy and charity to all that he met. A deeply religious man, Bob devoted much of his life to serving The Lord and was comfortable in the knowledge that upon death, he would be in a good place. A long time member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wheaton Illinois, and most recently Messiah Lutheran Church in Joliet; he will be remembered for his humor, his kindness and his belief in God. This kind and gentle soul was truly an angel waiting for wings to fly.
