Vern L. Pershey
Age 86. Was called to his eternal home suddenly Sunday August 5, 2012, after suffering an appearant heart attack while approaching the church that he attended for over 86 years. Born in Joliet and a life long Joliet area resident. A graduate of Joliet Township High School class of 1944. A US Army Air Corps Veteran. Retired from Sheffield formerly Phoenix manufacturing after over 41 years of service as the Superintendent of Maintenance in 1988. A life time member of Stone City Post VFW #2199, also a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Preceeded by his parents Martin and Linda and one brother Robert
Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years Phyllis A. Pershey of Joliet. 2 daughters Lynne (Jerry) Elwood of Elwood and Laurie (Michael) Elfter of Joliet. one son Vern Michael Pershey of Joliet. 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one brother Richard (Rosemary) Pershey of Joliet. numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful canine companion Milo also survive.
Funeral services for Vern L. Pershey will be held Tuesday morning August 7, 2012 from the funeral home chapel at 10:15 to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for a mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Shepherd Staff at 810 Cobblestone Lane, Elwood, IL 60421 or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in his name would be appreciated. Visitation Tuesday morning 9 a.m. until time of service at:
