Mr. Raymond "Ramon" Placencia, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 87 on Friday June 11, 2010.
Born on May 25, 1923 in Yurecuaro, Michoacan, Mexico, he came to the United States by working on the railroad across the United States. He married on November 17, 1945, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, and later proudly became a U.S. citizen. Residing most of his life in Joliet, Illinois, he retired from both Boeing and later Caterpillar, Inc.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Josephine Mary (Calcanas) Placencia, son Raymond (Kathy) Placencia and daughter Diana Gierich. Grandchildren: Nicole (John) Saltzman, Jason (Carrie) Gierich, Lisa Gierich and Kali Placencia; five great-grandchildren, Kiley Gladkowski, Tyler Saltzman, Damon and Aaliyah Almazan and Landon Navarro; one sister, Amalia (in Mexico); one sister-in-law, Mary (Mike) Stevens; former son-in-law John Gierich and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by one son, Roberto Placencia; parents, Marcos and Luz (Herrera) Placencia; sisters, Esperanza, Maria, and Dolores; and brothers, Rodolfo and Rafael.
He was an avid bowler in the Joliet Will County area, a former member of the Knights of Columbus who enjoyed cooking for his friends and family.
Funeral services for Raymond Placencia will be Tuesday, june 15, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church for Mass at 10:00 a.m.. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. Visitation Monday from 2-8 p.m. at:
