Obituary of Joe Powell

Powell, Joe Wray Age 81. January 26, 2012 at Hines VA Hospital. Born in Joliet and a lifetime Joliet/Crest Hill resident. A United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. Past Member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. Member of the Board of Richland Grade School; life member of Cantigny Post VFW #367; life member of the American Legion Post #1080; life member of the 32nd Infantry Regiment Association and life member of the7th Infantry Dru Association. Also a member of the Crest Hill Veteran and Police Memorial Organization. He was an avid magician. His greatest past time was collecting and operating H.O. Model Trains. Preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Essie (Brawner) Powell. One Brother Gordon L. (Barbara) Powell. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis J. (nee Marquardt) Powell of Crest Hill; one son, Joe Wray (Renee) Powell Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C.; daughter, Launda Rae Powell of Ypsilanti, MI; granddaughter, Juliana R. Powell of North Carolina; grandson, Michael Powell; sister, Peggy (Mark) L. Briggs of Oregon. Funeral services for Joe Wray Powell will be Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Rev. Karl Hess officiating. Please omit flowers. Memorials in his memory to St. Peter Lutheran Church would be appreciated. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
