Obituary of Boyd Rains

Boyd W. Rains Age 72, of Channahon, died peacefully Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born September 16, 1937 to the late Boyd E. and Madge (nee Miller) Rains in Thebes, IL. he was raised there, graduating from Thebes High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, he also served in the Air Force Reserves after being honorably discharged in 1959. A maintenance electrician with Caterpillar Inc., retiring after 34 years of service. Beloved husband of 50 years to Della F. (nee Blankenship); loving father of Theresa (Tim) Startz, Steven Rains and Diana (Mark) Daggett; proud grandfather of Tiffany and Taylor Startz; Cassie, Jacob and Cori Daggett; also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins, including his fishing buddy and cousin, Flynn Cox. Preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Kenneth and Gary Rains. Boyd was a skilled craftsman who built his own home and could fix just about anything. A lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, he played softball (Caterpillar League) in his younger years and liked to read old western novels, golf and build/troubleshoot computers. His favorite pastimes were fishing and camping with his family and friends. Funeral Services for Boyd W. Rains will be Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Visitation Tuesday, 4-8 p.m. at: FRED C.
