Obituary of Edwin Berest

Berest, Edwin S. Age 83, at rest on May 22, 2012. Ed is survived by his devoted wife Bettie (Brown) of 58 years, his adoring daughter Susan and son-in-law Bill Miller, his beloved granddaughters Emily Miller and Erica Hall, and their families Adam Cain, Zachary Hall and great-grandson Atticus Hall. He was a veteran serving in the United States Navy. As a member of the Joliet Jewish Congregation, Ed served on the Board of Directors for 15 years, and as financial secretary. He was President of the M.A. Felman Lodge of B'nai Brith , and rose to the position of President of the Northern Illinois Council of B'nai Brith. His career in sales resulted in a variety of top salesman recognitions. He was a member of the Noon Lions Club, YMCA, Baker Street Irregulars (Sherlock Holmes Society), and the Will County Officials Association, where he received the Iron Man award for his years of hard work, dedication and service. This award was renamed The Ed Berest Iron Man Award. Ed also volunteered for several years at Provena St. Joseph's Hospital. His spare time was spent playing softball, golfing, fishing and especially running, and he was an avid reader. Funeral Services will be held today, Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Joliet Jewish Congregation, 250 North Midland Avenue, at 11:30 a.m., with Rabbi Charles Rubovits officiating. Visitation will be today from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. He will be buried at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
