Donald P. Reiter, B.S. R.Ph
Age 78. At rest Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, with his loving family by his side. Born in Joliet to the late Philip H. and Elizabeth (nee Ward) Reiter, he was a lifelong resident. Attended St. John the Baptist Grade School, and graduated from Joliet Catholic High School Class of 1948. He received his Bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. President of Joliet Prescription Shops, Inc. Charter member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood, serving his church as usher, and was instrumental in the steering committee prior to the building of the new church.
Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Audrey (nee Niethammer) Reiter of Joliet; five children, Thomas (Stormy) Reiter of Lockport, Carol (John) Glasscock of Joliet, Diane (Thomas) Vertin of Plainfield, Michelle (James) Nonnie of Joliet and Terrence (Nora) Reiter of Davenport, IA; 13 grandchildren, Casey and Rebecca Reiter; Audrey, Jeffrey and Jennifer Glasscock; Matthew, Michael, Marc and Meredith Vertin; Patricia and Jonathan Nonnie; Mark and Daniel Reiter; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Holloway and Margaret Breen; two brothers, Ronald Reiter and Thomas in infancy.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the coronary intensive care unit, surgical intensive care unit, and the physicians and staff at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center; and the staff of Joliet Area Community Hospice for all their compassionate, dedicated, loving care.
Funeral Services for Donald P. Reiter will be Monday, June 8, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to Holy Family Catholic Church, Shorewood for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery, Plainfield. Visitation Sunday 1-8 p.m. at:
