Obituary of Evelyn Roberts

Evelyn M. Roberts Age 93. Born into eternal life on June 7, 2008 at the Inn at Willow Falls, Crest Hill with her children at her side. She was born to the late Charles and Margaret Boggio in Coal City May 14,1915. She was preceded in death in 2002 by her devoted and devout husband of 66 years, Robert W. Roberts. Evelyn is survived by her loving children Lynne Brooker of Lockport, Dr. John and Mrs. Valerie Roberts of Walnut Creek, CA; Jayne and William Becker of Murphys, CA. "Nona" to 12 grandchildren: Lauri Kubinski, Tracy and John Katz, Steven T. Brooker, David and Jodi Brooker, Robert and Rhonda Brooker, Kristen, Kate, David and Mark Roberts, Molly and Jim Lyons, John and Marci Becker, Erika and Neil Glines; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister Mardeen (Bernard) Berta; sisters-in-law Ethel Mae Flanders, Mary Jane Zumwalt, brother-in-law John R. (Jan) Roberts, and honorary granddaughter Ann Postel, and numerous nieces and nephews. Graduate of Coal City High School and Gallagher School of Business, Kankakee, in 1934, where she met her future husband. Together they started R.W. Roberts Co. in 1960 and grew the business for nineteen years. Resident of Joliet since 1955, where she was active in parish life at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus and St. Paul the Apostle Church, and volunteer service through Women of Rotary, Joliet Hospice, and St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. Evelyn was grounded by a deep faith and strong family bonds. She was the heart, soul and historian of her entire family. She was blessed with a love of life and gift for music that she readily shared. At the Inn, where she had lived since 2002, she played the organ for chapel services and entertained often with lively piano playing that set toes tapping. She had a friendly outgoing spirit and never met a stranger, and she was a thoughtful and sensitive friend, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed card games, especially bridge; swimnastics, and doing needlepoint, leaving a legacy of fun and artwork for family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn M. Roberts will be celebrated on Monday, June 9, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18 N. Woodlawn Avenue, Joliet. Private interment at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church would be appreciated. Family will receive friends and relatives at the church on Monday, from 9:30 a.m. until Mass begins.
