Sister M. Magdalene Schmitt, OSF Sister M. Magdalene (Elizabeth) Schmitt, OSF (1928-2009) died peacefully at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home in Joliet, Illinois on July 6, 2009. Born in Leonore, Illinois, she was the beloved daughter of the deceased Albert and Frances (Frings) Schmitt. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Karl (Mary Ann) and Wieman (Dorothy) Schmitt and two sisters, Eleanore Guyon and Elaine Schmitt. She has one brother, Eugene (Nancy) Schmitt living in Albuquerque, NM; and several nieces and nephews. She was a treasured member of the Joliet Franciscans for over 63 years. Sister M. Magdalene graduated from St. Francis Academy and the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. After professing her vows as a religious, she ministered as a grade school teacher for fifty-four years spending thirty-three of those years at St. Stephen Parish in Streator, Illinois. In 2002 she moved to Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home serving as a volunteer for four years in the Administration Office and for three years in community service at OLA. The wake will be held at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Thursday, July 9, 2009, from 2:00-6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The burial will take place on Friday, July 10, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Angels to Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, 1433 Essington Road, Joliet, IL 60435. Arrangements by: FRED C.
