Eugene E. Schumacher
"Gene"
Age 82. Passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born in Osgood, IA, he was a Joliet area resident since 1952. A United States Korean War Army Veteran. He was a meat market manager for A&P Foods with 30 years of service. He worked at Stateville Correctional Center, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
Preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mary (nee Bradley) Schumacher; two brothers, Michael Schumacher, and Leonard Schumacher; four sisters, Elizabeth (late Raymond) Olson, Mary (late Joseph) Meissner, Consuella Seliga, and Edna Mae (Edward) O'Conner.
Survived by his loving wife, Marilyn (nee Spittal) Schumacher; five sons, Nicholas (Pauline), Michael (Jane), John, James R. (Missey), and William P. Schumacher; six grandchildren, William P. Schumacher, James T. Schumacher, Joshua Schumacher, Brock Hermann, Chase Hermann, and Bradley Schumacher; three sisters, Alice (Clarence) Weinzetl, Theresa (Leonard) Buryanek, and Karen (Sidney) Zylstra; one brother, Keyron (Linda) Schumacher.
Gene, a proud veteran, was a member of the 24th Infantry Division Association, the 5th Regimental Combat Team Association, American Legion Harwood Post #5, VFW Cantigny Post #367 and the Loyal Order of Moose, Joliet Lodge #300. He enjoyed golf, bowling and gardening.
Funeral Services for Eugene E. Schumacher will be Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to the Church of St. Jude for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice or the Church of St. Jude would be appreciated. Visitation Monday 4-8 p.m. at:
