Obituary of Robert Schwab
Robert C. Schwab
"Schwabbie"
Age 80, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday morning, October 8, 2009. An avid outdoorsman, he was also a dedicated volunteer at St. Mary's Plainfield Food Pantry, and with St. Mary Immaculate Knights of Columbus Chapter #5573 (past Grand Knight), and a legend at church (Lenten fish fries). He loved to golf and bowl, hunt and fish with this kids. His garden offered many years of bounty that he would always share with family and friends. His seasonal foraging treks to surrounding fields and forests yielded the best that nature could offer. He was a fiercely loyal family man, whose truthful sense of humor and sharp wit will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His generosity with his time and amazing mechanical skills will live on in the hearts of those he helped. Bud served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, and was a lifetime member of Cantigny VFW Post #367. He retired in 1990 from Argonne National Laboratory after working there for 42 years as a maintenance foreman.
Preceded in death by his father, Henry, and his mother, Josephine; his son, Jeffry (1984); his brothers, Henry "Skip" and Richard "Dick"; as well as his sisters, Henrietta DuBien, Marie Carey, Louise Powers, Fran Hahn, Rita Mitchell and Irene Bowman.
Bud is survived by his devoted wife, Helen (nee Matichak); children, Laura (Marc) Jeske, Robyn (Michael) Wojciechowski, Greg (Patti) Schwab and Sheryl (Jeff) Erickson; daughter-in-law, Karen Schwab; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Florence (late Herbert) Spencer and Lois (Robert Sr.) Delaney.
