Obituary of Ozzie Billups

Ozzie Mae Billups In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. John 14:2 On July 13, 2009 Ozzie Mae Billups went home to her awaiting room in her Father's house. Ozzie Mae Billups, age 75 years and a member of St. John's Missionary Baptist Church suddenly, passed away in Texas on Monday, July 13, 2009. Mrs. Billups was preceded in death by her parents, York and Bessie Harris; daughter, Yvonne Billups; son, Dennis Billups; husband, Benjamin T. Billups; brothers, Cottrell Marshall, Elijah Harris, Cagie Harris and York Harris Jr. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Annie Harris, Lee Bertha Harris-Wilson and Maud Minter. She leaves to cherish her memory, son, Cordtz Harris of Chicago; daughter, Beatrice Harris of Chicago; son, Benjamin (Eloise) Billups of Joliet; daughter, Diane Kitchen of Georgetown TX; she is also survived by four sisters, Kattie (Clay) Lee Sharkey of MS, Genave Carter, Bertha (Julius) Oliver of MS, and Fannie (Willie) Walker of St. Louis; three brothers, Delton Harris of Kansas City MO, Simon (Susie) Harris of MS, and Howard (Angie) Harris also of Kansas City; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ozzie was an active member of St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, serving in the mission ministry until she relocated to Texas in 2007. Ozzie was always willing to help a person in need, especially if that person was a relative. On several occasions she traveled to help a family member, even when she wasn't feeling the best herself. Twice within the last two years she did so by traveling to MS by plane (she hated flying) and helped take care of her sister's husband while her sister was worked and to Kansas City to help take care of her brother who was ill. She cared about her loved ones and would do anything within her power to assist them. The family will receive friends and family at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home on Monday, July 20, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, 104 E. Zarley Blvd., Joliet, IL from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service. Burial will be Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home to Restvale Cemetery in Alsip.
