Jean N. Sichta
Age 86, of Joliet, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011. She was born May 25, 1925 to the late Andrew and Bernice (nee Uchmam) Tekiela and was a lifetime resident of Joliet. Loving wife of the late George, proprietor of Sichta's Tavern. Beloved mother of George (Teresa), Bruce (Mary Beth) and Brian (Lori) Sichta. Devoted grandmother of Scott (Francine) Sichta, George Allen (Karen) Sichta, Stacey (Jason) Strege, Eric, Susanne and Michael Sichta. Proud great grandmother of Cole Hintze and Addison Sichta. Fond niece of Doris Babich and dear cousin of Sophie Peterson. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by her husband in 1968; her parents as well as her siblings, Fredrick (Mary) Tekiela, Lillian (Florian) Lewandowski, Angela (Chester) Derezinski, Dorothy (Mitchel) Frankiewicz and Adeline (Andrew) Papai.
Jean, after being a floral assistant in her youth, was an avid gardener, once maintaining over 500 plants around her home. Although she enjoyed her hobby, nothing gave her more fulfillment, than being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She ran for city council, was involved with the citizens action group, and was a member of the mothers club of both the Cathedral of St. Raymond School and Joliet Catholic High.
Funeral Services for Jean N. Sichta will be Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to the Cathedral of St. Raymond for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Ss. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday 2-9 p.m. at:
