Sidener, Betty Jane
Passed peacefully May 11, 2011 at Miller Center in Kankakee, IL after a long illness. Born in Springfield OH on May 25, 1926, she moved to Effingham, IL in October, 1950 to marry her sweetheart, Eugene W. Sidener. In 1951 they moved to Elwood, IL to raise their son, Gene Raymond.
Employed by Sears Roebuck & Co. in Joliet, retired in 1985 after 20 years of service. President of the Elwood/Jackson Township History Club, past Vice-President of Jackson Township Homemakers, past member of the Will County Homemakers, Sears Retirees Club, Elwood/Jackson Township Twilighter's and Elwood Community Church where she participated with various fundraisers.
Betty enjoyed her flowers, gardening, the holidays, volunteering and her family.
Preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Wesley (April 11, 1991) after 40 years of marriage; one son at birth, Butch Wayne (1951); her parents, Harvey and Mary Hartley.
Loving mother of Gene Raymond (Cynthia) of Kankakee; devoted grandchildren, Justin Eugene and Ashley Lynn, both of Kankakee.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sidener Cemetery, St. Elmo, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a charity of the family's choice. Visitation Sunday, 2-6 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 6:00 p.m. at:
