John E. Singletary
Age 88. Suddenly Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born August 29, 1920 and a lifelong Joliet resident. Graduate of St. Patrick's Grade School, Joliet Catholic High School Class of 1938, and St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, IN Class of 1942. A World War II Army veteran, he served as a Supply Sergeant with the 599th SAW Bn in Saipan, Marianda Islands. Retired from McCabe Moving and Storage in 1986. Formerly employed for 19 years at Robert Pilcher Paper Company. Member of Exchange Club of Joliet where he was Past President, Cantigny Post #367 VFW, St. Paul's Church and the Paulites.
Surviving are his wife, Rose (Kirincich) (nee McCanna) Singletary; four sons, John (Sandra) Singletary Jr. of Shorewood; James (Vicki) Singletary of Centennial, CO, George (Janice) Singletary of Ankeny, IA, and Robert (Carmen) Singletary of Fullerton, CA; three daughters, Susan Brenner of Monument, CO, Mary (Joseph) Heenan of Shorewood, and Lois (Ludwig) Hutin of Manhattan, IL; two stepdaughters, Connie (Mike) Gillespie of Jacksonville, FL and Debbie (John) Perella of Joliet; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded by his first wife, Betty (nee Calkins) Singletary (1976); parents, George E. and Mary (nee McDonough) Singletary; and four sisters, Anna Gardner, Helen Meyer, Mary Griffin, and Lois Whitmer.
Funeral Services for John Singletary will be Monday, May 18, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Visitation Sunday from 3-8 p.m. at:
