Obituary of Phyllis Skeldon

Phyllis B. Skeldon (nee Berkes) Age 97, passed away peacefully Monday, April 21, 2008 at the Timbers of Shorewood. Born and raised in Joliet, she was a graduate of St. Francis Academy. Retired from the Corps of Engineers. Preceded in death by her husband, William Skeldon (1992); one son, Richard in infancy; her parents, Nicholas and Mary (Schneider) Berkes; two brothers, Henry and Joseph; two sisters, Mae Berkes and Madeline (Elmer) Glass. Survived by one son, Jack (Jan) Skeldon; three granddaughters, Jacy (Mike) Salber of Orlando, FL, Jami (Dave) Bustamante of Dearborn, MI and Jennifer (John) Stephens of Shorewood; 15 great-grandchildren, Zane, Morgan, Cade and Jena May Salber; Zachary, Nicholas, John Paul, Jessica, Joshua and Clare Bustamante; Brooke, Dakota, McKenze Marie, Casey, and Lauren Stephens; also survived by one nephew, Larry Berkes; one niece, Deanne Young; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She participated and volunteered with many organizations including St. Joseph Medical Center Women's Auxiliary where she served on their board for eight years, the Women's Health Connection, Joliet Women's Club, CCW and the Paulites at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where she was also a charter member. She was also involved with the Catholic Women's League, Ladies of the Elks Auxiliary where she served on their board for eight years, the Women of the Moose and AARP Senior Citizens of Joliet. She also assisted with the Carillon quarterly brochure since its inception. Phyllis loved to play cards, especially euchre. Funeral Services for Phyllis Skeldon will be Friday, April 25, 2008 at 9:45 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
